BiographyJohn Norris reports for the MTV Radio Network, produced and distributed exclusively by Westwood One. The MTV Radio Network serves three formats: Alternative/Rock, CHR/Pop, and Urban/Hip-Hop, and is heard over 165 stations nationally. Norris is responsible for covering music, entertainment and pop culture news on the East Coast. His duties include writing and developing news stories, interviewing celebrities, and on-air hosting.
Norris first joined the MTV News department in 1986 to write music and entertainment news segments for the MTV VJs. When Kurt Loder joined MTV in 1988 as News Anchor, Norris was appointed Kurt's alternate. He filled in for Kurt as host of MTV's hourly news reports and "Week In Rock." In 1990, he began delivering the news on MTV's morning show, "Awake On The Wild Side," where he attracted a loyal following of fans. Norris rejoined MTV News in January of 1996. Throughout 1996, he contributed regular reports to MTV's "Choose Or Lose '96" political awareness campaign. Currently, Norris is once again on the campaign trail covering MTV’s “Choose or Lose 2000.” He hosted the kick-off concert in New Hampshire and served as a correspondent for MTV at both the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia and the Democratic National Convention in Los Angeles.
Norris has hosted a variety of MTV News special programming, including "From The Buzz Bin," a series profiling new artists on the music scene, "Positively Global," an MTV News Special Report featuring personal narratives from young adults around the world who are affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and “Janet Jackson: Behind The Velvet Rope,” an exclusive behind-the-scenes profile of Jackson while on her “Velvet Rope” tour in England.
Before rejoining MTV News in 1996, Norris worked as an entertainment reporter for the syndicated magazine show "EXTRA!"
