KRPC Channel 2
BiographyEmmy-award winning investigative reporter Amy Davis says she will always remember her first visit to KPRC Local 2.
She was a junior in college at the University of Houston, applying for a Houston Press Club scholarship. Soon after, she got her first taste of TV news working first as an intern and then a news desk assistant at the station.
Nearly 10 years later, she walked through the doors again, this time as an investigative reporter in 2005. But, she made a few stops on the round trip back home to Houston.
Davis accepted her first reporting job at KJAC in Beaumont.
While in Beaumont, Amy reported on racial discrimination at a small town swim club. Her investigation got the attention of the Justice Department, which promptly closed the pool. The story also won her the 1998 Texas Associated Press Award for Best Investigative Report.
Amy then moved to Asheville, N.C., where she reported for WLOS. While there, she uncovered deplorable living conditions at an assisted living facility. The facility was fined and restricted from admitting new patients for 90 days for neglecting patients after the report aired.
She returned to Texas in 2002, when she accepted a reporting job at WOAI in San Antonio.
Amy is a long-time member of Investigative Reporters & Editors.
Her investigations have won accolades and honors from the Society of Professional Journalists, the Houston Press Club, the Harris County Medical Society and the Lone Star Emmy Chapter.
Born and raised in Houston, Amy is a graduate of Aldine Senior High School.
She attended the University of Houston, where she majored in Journalism and received a minor in Political Science.
Amy said the best part of her job is helping people, righting wrongs, exposing wrongdoing and letting the little guy's voice be heard.
"I love getting to ask questions viewers at home are shouting at their TVs," she said.
Amy is married and has two cats named Bear and Grover.
When not reporting, Amy likes to work out, read and shop. www.click2houston.com/newsteam/4498032/detail.html
