MLS - San Jose Earthquakes

Biography

Arturo Alvarez completed a successful rookie season for the Earthquakes in 2003, providing excitement and depth off the bench in his first professional season. At 17, Alvarez became the youngest member of the Quakes to ever play in an MLS game on April 19 and also became the youngest player in club history to score a goal when he connected for the game-winner against Dallas on June 14. Alvarez’s energy and skill with the ball ensures that he can have a bright future contributing to the Quakes attack. Alvarez is a member of the MLS Project-40 program and divided much of his time in 2003 between the Earthquakes and the United States Under-18 and Under-20 teams. Alvarez made the U.S. roster for the Under-20 FIFA World Youth Championships in December, but a groin injury that kept him sidelined throughout the playoffs forced him to miss the tournament. Alvarez is expected to continue to develop into a versatile, entertaining and dangerous player in 2004.
